ARRANGEMENT, SIZE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Slovakia is the country which doesn't have an outlet to the sea, located in Eastern Europe. Rather it is approximately twice more than the State of New Hampshire with a total area of 48 845 sq.km (18 859 quarter. Miles). Slovakia shares borders with Poland in Ukraine, in Ukraine, in Hungary, with Austria and the Czech Republic, and has the general border 1 355 km long (842 miles). The capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, is located on southwest border of the country.
The topography of Slovakia differs in rough mountains in the central and northern part of the country and lowlands in the south. The High Tatras (Tatra mountains) along the Polish border alternate between many lakes and deep valleys. The highest top in the country, Gerlakhovtsa, meets in the High Tatras height of 2,655 m (8 711 feet). Bratislava is located in the only considerable region of Slovakia on plains where the Danube River is a part of border with Hungary.
Climate in Clinic continental, with hot summer and in the cold winter. In July average temperature is 21 °C (70 °F). Average temperature of January is -1 °C (30 °F). Rainfall makes about 49 cm (19,3 inches) a year and can exceed 200 cm in the High Tatras.
FLORA AND FAUNA
Some areas from steppe pastures can be found in the southwest lowland where also plentiful marsh herbs and reeds. While the oak is the main tree found in lowlands on hillsides the beech, a fir-tree, a pine and a mountain maple meet. The Alpine meadows include carnations, glacial genta and an edelweiss. The High Tatras support growth of many types of mosses, lichens and mushrooms. The mammals found in the country include a fox, rabbits and a wild pig. A large number of birds lives in valleys of Slovakia. The carp, a pike and a trout are in the rivers, lakes and streams of the country. As of 2002 there were not less than 85 species of mammals, 199 bird species and more than 3 100 species of plants through the whole country.
