Along with Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chzhukhay and several other large cities in the Province of Guangdong, the territory is the main part of the megalopolis of Perlriver, the most inhabited area in the world. Real Chinese name (Chinese; пиньин: komen, Cantonese Yale: Oumun) means "Bay Outlet". Macau differently is known in Chinese as Haojing (literally "Moat's Mirror") or Jinghai (literally "The mirror sea"). It is considered that the name Macau happens from the temple of A-Ma (Chinese: пиньин: Mage Miao, Cantonese Yale: Magok Miuh), the temple built in 1448, devoted to MAZ, the goddess of seamen and fishermen. More precisely, the name Macau corresponds to the Chinese name "Magang" (a Pinyin: Magang) that means "the harbor Matzo" and belongs to the waters adjacent to Am's temple.
The history Macau goes back to a dynasty Qin (221-206 BC) when the region called now by Macau got under jurisdiction of the District of Panyyu, the prefecture of Nanhai (modern the Province of Guangdong). The people who are looking for shelters in Macau from invasion of Mongols during the southern song were the first registered Chinese residents of these area. Under the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) fishermen migrated in Macau from the Provinces of Guangdong and Fujian. Locals of Macau were people from the boat of "Tank".
Macau didn't develop as the large settlement until Portuguese arrived in the 16th century. In 1513 Jorge Alvares became the first Portuguese who landed in China. In 1535 the Portuguese dealers acquired the rights for anchor vessels in the ports of Macau and for implementation of trade operations, though not for remaining on the land. About 1552-1553 they got temporary permission to construction of canopies for storage on the land to dry up the goods impregnated with sea water; they soon built rudimentary stone houses around the area which is called to Us Wang now.
Macau is located in 60 kilometers (37 miles) to the southwest from Hong Kong and in 145 kilometers (90 miles) from Guangzhou of continental China. It also has 41 kilometers (25 miles) of the coastline, but only 310 meters (1000 feet) of border of sushi about Guangdong of continental China. It consists of the peninsula of Macau and the islands of Taypa and Koloane which are connected with the ground forming Kotay now. The peninsula is formed Zhu Chiang's mouths (Pearl River) in the east and Xi Chiang (The western river) in the West. It borders on the Zhuhai Special economic zone in continental China.
