UGANDA
(African Republic of Uganda)

The central African nation of Uganda is the constitutional republic which made transition to unlimited multi-party policy after decades of one-party board recently. Executive power headed by the president who is the head of state and the head of the government, continues to dominate over legislative and judicial branches of the power.

It is a little less than State of Wyoming, Uganda is the fertile, densely populated and not having an outlet to the sea country in thirty million people. His direct neighbors are Sudan, in the north; Kenya, on the East; Tanzania, on the South; Rwanda, on the southwest and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on the West. These borders closely correspond to those which were demarcated British when they created Protectorate of Uganda with a number of contracts in 1900, having united a row independent and often hostile tribes within uniform administration. Strengthening of ethnic tension as certain tribes competed for the British favor became result, and these rivalries remained after finding of independence and remain an important factor in policy of Uganda. From ten main ethnic groups of the country the largest is Baganda who, nevertheless, makes only seventeen percent of the population. Bogande I was exclusive group under the British, and their king famous as tavern, was an important intermediary between colonial administration and various tribes.

Transition from protectorate to the independent nation was rather peace, gradually proceeding through stages of increase in autonomy. Full independence came on October 9, 1962 when Milton Obote (1924-2005) of the National congress of Uganda became the first prime minister of the new country. Obote quickly encountered resistance in the efforts on centralization and consolidation of the power, especially from Baganda which remembered that force which they used to independence. When Obote, the member of the tribe of Lango, suspended the constitution in February, 1966 and dismissed to tavern with its main thing of a ceremonial post as the head of state, the stage was ready for an ethnic revolt and civil war.

Though more and more repressive methods kept Obote in force for five years, the opposition was under construction, and in January, 1971 the commander of military of Uganda Idi Amin (about 1925-2003) organized a successful coup. Within a week he dismissed parliament, made amendments to the constitution and declared himself the president. Amin and his followers pursued ethnic minorities, expropriated the enterprises and a private property and also killed civilians, killing hundreds of thousands of Ugandans during his corrupted and cruel eight-year board. In 1979 the coalition of the Tanzanian troops and insurgents of Uganda finally forced out Amin.
