ARRANGEMENT, SIZE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Serbia is located on the central part of the Balkan Peninsula. Total area is about 88 412 sq.km (34 135 quarter. Miles). The whole country of the size of Man. Serbia borders on Russia Hungary, across Romania, across Bulgaria, across Macedonia and Albania, on the southeast from Montenegro, across Bosnia and Herzegovina and across Northern Croatia; total length of overland border is 2,114,2 km (1,313,76 miles). There are territorial disputes with Bosnia and Herzegovina over the territories inhabited by Serbians.
Serbia is Belgrade located in northern central Serbia.
TOPOGRAPHY
Rich fertile plains meet in the Serbian North, and in the east - limestones and pools. Nearly a half of Serbia of a horn, from Dinarskimi Alpami on the western border, the North Albanian Alps (Prokletiya) and Sarsky mountains in the south and also Balkan Mountains along southeast border. The highest point - Daravitsa, in the North Albanian Alps, at the height of 2,656 m (8 714 feet). From its mountains 15 reach heights more than 2000 m (6 600 feet).
Danube - the longest river. At the total length of 2778 km (1729 miles) of about 588 km (365 miles) flows from the West on the East through the northern region of Serbia. The rivers of the Yew, Sava and Morava are the main inflows of Danube.
On the Euroasian tectonic plate there are several lines of the breaks passing through the country which is seismically active. Earthquakes are quite widespread, and there were destructive earthquakes.
CLIMATE
In the north of winter cold, and summer hot and damp. In the central and southern regions climate more continental. Annual rainfall in the most part of the country makes from 56 to 190 cm (from 22 to 75 inches).
FLORA AND FAUNA
The woods of Serbia contain about 170 broad-leaved species of trees and bushes and also about 35 types of coniferous breeds. The animals found in Serbia include species of a hare, pheasant, deer, deer, boar, a fox, a chamois, a mouflon, the crane, a duck and a goose. As of 2002 in the Union of Serbia and Montenegro there were at least 96 species of mammals, 238 bird species and more than 4000 species of plants through the whole country.
