ARRANGEMENT, SIZE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The commonwealth of the Bahamas occupies the archipelago of 13 940 sq.km (5 382 quarter. Miles) which stretches for 950 km (590 miles) and for 298 km (185 miles) between southeast Florida and northern Spain. Rather, the space occupied by the Bahamas is a little less than State of Connecticut. There are about 700 islands from which about 30 are inhabited. New Providence, 207 sq.km (80 quarter. Miles), though not the biggest, is the most densely populated and most densely populated island. The general coastline makes 3,542 km (2,201 miles).

The Bahamas hold strategic position near the United States and Cuba.

The Bahama capital, Nassau, is located on the island New Providence in the center of island group.

TOPOGRAPHY

The Bahamas were created as superficial exits of two oceanic banks, Grand Bagamsky bank and Bank of Lithuania the Bahamas. Islands mostly are low also flat, rising up to the peak height about 63 m (206 feet) that makes Mt. Alverniya on the island of Kota. The area is broken by lakes and mangrove swamps, and coastlines are noted by coral reeves.

CLIMATE

The climate is pleasant subtropical, average winter temperature is 23 °C (73 °F) and average summer temperature is 27 °C (81 °F). Rainfall averages 127 cm (50 inches), and sometimes there are hurricanes.

FLORA AND FAUNA

Because of a favorable combination of soil and climatic conditions of the island abound with such tropical flora as a bugenviliya, a jasmine, an oleander, an orchid and the yellow aged man. Native trees include black olive, a beef-wood, каскарилью, a pith tree, манчинель, a pimento and seven species of a palm tree. There are 218 types and subspecies of birds, including a flamingo, a humming-bird and other small birds and waterfowl.
