MONETARY GROUP: Officially entered on December 3, 1973, the dollar of Barbados (DBS) of 100 cents is the paper currency which is officially tied to US dollar. There are coins of 1, 5, 10 and 25 cents and 1 dollar and also banknotes of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollars. bds of $1 = us of $0.50000 (or us of $1 = bds of $2; since 2004).

ARRANGEMENT, SIZE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Located approximately in 320 km from Trinidad and about 160 km (100 miles) from Saint Lucia, Barbados is the most east of the Caribbean islands. The island makes 34 km (21 miles) length of nanosecond and 23 km (14 miles) e-w width, with an area of 430 sq.km (166 quarter. Miles) and the general coastline in 97 km (60 miles). Rather, Barbados occupies slightly less, than 2,5 times more, than in Washington, the District of Columbia.

Capital: Barbados, Bridgetown, it is located on the southwest coast of the country.

TOPOGRAPHY

The coast is almost completely surrounded with coral reeves. The only natural harbor - the gulf Carlisle on the southwest coast. The earth towers up to 336 m (1 102 feet) on the mountain. CLIMATE

The tropical climate is tempered almost constant sea breeze from the northeast in the winter and in the early spring and from the southeast during other part of year. Temperatures fluctuate from 21-30 °C (70-86 °F). The annual amount of precipitation fluctuates from about 100 cm (40 inches) in some coastal areas up to 230 cm (90 inches) near the central ridge. The rainy season is spent to the period from June to December, but during the whole year the rain periodically drops out.

FLORA AND FAUNA

On the island palm trees, a beef-wood, mahogany and almond trees are found, but there are no big forest areas, the most part of land level passed to a sugar cane. A wide variety of flowers and bushes includes wild roses, carnations, lilies and several cactuses. The natural wild nature is limited by several mammals and birds; bramblings, blackbirds and birds with moustaches.
