ABOUT ISLANDS

Islands have two general types: high volcanic islands which maintain a big variety of forms of plants and the low-lying coral atolls with poorer soil. The island Yap differs in the fact that it was formed folds in crust and is continental in geological structure. Each of four states has in the settlement sublime matter in quite big degree - from the island of Pohnpei, of 129 square miles (334,1 sq.km), to the island Yap (38,7 square miles [100,2 sq.km]). The island Yap and six islands in group Chuuk rise by more than 500 feet (150 meters), and the islands of Kosra and Pohnpei have peaks 2064 feet (629 meters) and 2 955 feet (791 meters) respectively. Coral atolls consist of groups of the small islands formed on the coral reef surrounding a lagoon.

GEOGRAPHY

Micronesia, the country in the western part of the Pacific Ocean. It consists of more than 600 islands and islands on the archipelago of the Caroline Islands and is divided approximately on cultural and linguistic lines into the states from the West on the East - Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosra. The capital - Palikir, on the island of Pohnpei. To the west from the Federal States of Micronesia there is a Republic of Palau, also in the archipelago of Kerolayn, and in the east - the Republic of the Marshall Islands. These two countries together with the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and the Federal States of Micronesia were operated by the United States as the ward of the territory of islands of the Pacific Ocean from 1947 to 1986. In Micronesia there are following states and dependent territories: The flag of Nauru, the Gilbert Islands, the Flag of the Marshall Islands, the Flag of the Federal States of Micronesia, the Flag of Palau, the Flag of the USA, the Flag of the Northern Mariana Islands, on it is also called the Federal States.

CLIMATE

The climate is tropical, with high humidity and average annual temperature in low 80 with F (about 27 °C). There are few seasonal fluctuations of temperature. Osadkov averages about 120 inches (3000 mm) a year on all area though Pohnpei annually receives more than 200 inches (5000 mm). There are various rainy and dry seasons, the last happen at the height of a northeast season to wind during the period from December to April. Яп which one is in a zone of monsoons, has west winds during a part of year. In the east every year there are numerous typhoons (tropical cyclones) which are usually departing on the northwest to Yaps and the Mariana Islands and seldom striking any other islands.
