ARRANGEMENT, SIZE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Norway occupies the western part of the Scandinavian Peninsula in northern Europe, and nearly a third of the country is located in Arctic Circle. It has the area of 324 220 sq.km (125 182 sq. miles). Rather, the area occupied with Norway is a little more, than in the State of New Mexico. Expanding 1,752 km (1 089 miles) of NUS, Norway has the greatest extent of any European country; its width is 430 km (267 miles) of ese-wnw. Limited across the Arctic Ocean, across Finland and Russia, in Swedish, on Skayrakra, at the northwest sea and across the Norwegian Sea of the Atlantic Ocean, Norway has overland border in 2,544 km (1,581 miles), and the general coastline - 21 925 km (13 624 miles).

TOPOGRAPHY

Norway is formed of the oldest breeds in the world. In it the mountain masses, and only one fifth of its total area less than 150 m (500 feet) above sea level prevail. Average height is 500 m (1640 feet). Glittertinden (2472 m / 8,110 feet, including a glacier at top) and Galdpiggen (2469 m / 8 100 feet) as in Yotunkheymen, are the highest points in Europe to the north from the Alpine and Carpathian ridge. The main river, Glama, 611 km long (380 miles), flows through the timbered southeast. The most part of Norway was cleaned by ice, and there are 1700 glaciers with a total area about 3,4 thousand. Sq.km (1,310 quarter. Miles). In the Areas of Lista and Yeeren in the far South extensive glacial deposits form agricultural lowlands. Excellent harbors are provided with almost uncountable fjords, deep spaces of the gulf of picturesque beauty which are never closed by ice and get through the continent on 182 km (113 miles). Along many coastal sites there is a chain of islands known as skjirgard.

CLIMATE

Because of North Atlantic drift Norway has soft climate for the country located in the north. With a big width range the North is much more cool than the South, and an interior colder, than the western coast, under the influence of the prevailing west winds and Gulf Stream. Average annual temperature in Oslo fluctuates from about 5 °C.
