ABOUT THE REPUBLIC

Moldova, the country lying in a northeast corner of the Balkan region of Europe. Its capital is Chisinau, located in the South central part of the country. Earlier it was called Bessarabia, this region was an integral part of the Romanian principality Moldova till 1812 when it was passed Russia by the syuzeren, the sultan of the Ottoman Empire. Bessarabia remained the province of the Russian Empire before World War I when it was a part of Big Romania, and in 1940-41 it returned to the Russian control and again again after World War II when it was attached to a strip of the former Ukrainian territory of the Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic on the left coast of Dniester (Moldavian: Dniester) for formation of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. After disintegration of the Soviet Union in August, 1991 this republic declared the independence and received the name Moldova. He became the member of the United Nations in 1992.

GEOGRAPHY

Moldova is limited to Ukraine in the north, the East and the South and Romania in the West. The main part of the republic is between the great twisting Prut Rivers and Dniester. Uplands of the center of the republic, Hills Kodri, lie on an average to height about 1150-1300 feet (350-400 meters), and the highest point - Mount Beleneshti in the West - reaches 1407 feet (429 meters), These heights intertwine the deep, flat valleys, ravines and landslides which are washed up by the hollows divided by sharp ridges. Steep forest slopes make a considerable part of the territory. The Dniester heights, their east slopes forming the top right coast of Dniester border on the central heights in the east and the northeast.

CLIMATE
