Slovenia is located in Central Europe. Slovenia is a little more than State of New Jersey with a total area of 20 273 sq.km (7 827 quarter. Miles). Slovenia divides borders with Austria in the territory of Russia, Hungary on е, Croatia in the south and also on the Adriatic Sea and in Italy, and has the general overland border of 1334 km (829 miles) and the coastline of 46,6 km (29 miles). The capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, is located near the center of the country.

TOPOGRAPHY

In topography of Slovenia there is a small coastal strip on Adriatic Sea, Dzhulianskiye Alpy adjacent to Italy, Mount Karavanken of northern border with Austria and the mixed mountains and valleys with the numerous rivers in the central and east regions. The highest point of the mountain. Триглав is in the Yuliysky Alps with height of 2,864 m (9 396 feet). The longest river is Sava which flows through the center of the country on 221 km (137 miles). Unique feature of Slovenia is existence more than 6500 karst caves, the most known of which are Skodzhan's caves in the southwest which are designated as the natural place of the World heritage of UNESCO.

CLIMATE

The coastal climate of Slovenia is influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. Its internal climate fluctuates from a lung till hot summer, with cold winter in the plateau and valleys in the east. In Ljubljana the average temperature of July is 20 °C (68 °F). Average temperature in January is -1 °C (30 °F). Rainfall in the capital averages 139 cm (59 inches) a year.

FLORA AND FAUNA

The climate of the region gave to Slovenia a set of various flora and fauna. Ferns, flowers, mosses and the general trees occupy a landscape. On the Adriatic Sea there are subtropical plants. Wild animals include deer, a brown bear, a rabbit, a fox and a wild boar. Farmers grow up vineyards on slopes and grow up the cattle in fertile lowlands of the country. As of 2002 there were not less than 75 species of mammals, 201 bird species and more than 3200 species of plants through the whole country.
