ABOUT THE COUNTRY

Croats arrived in this area in the 6th century and organized the territory to two duchies by the 9th century. Tomislav became the first king by 925, having lifted Croatia to the status of the kingdom which saved the sovereignty nearly two centuries, reaching the peak during government of tsars of Pyotr Kreshimir IV and Dmitry Zvonimir. Croatia entered into personal alliance with Hungary in 1102. In 1527, having faced conquest of the Ottoman Empire, the Croatian parliament elected Ferdinand I Habsburg to the Croatian throne. In October, 1918, in the last days of World War I, in Zagreb the state of Slovenes, Croats and Serbians independent of Austria-Hungary was announced, and in December, 1918 it was united in the Kingdom of Serbians, Croats and Slovenes. After invasion of the Axis into Yugoslavia in April, 1941 the most part of the territory of Croatia was included in the state client supported by fascists which led to development of a resistance movement and creation of the Federal state of Croatia which after war became fundamental the member and the federal member of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. On June 25, 1991 Croatia declared independence which came into force on October 8 the same year. The Croatian war of independence successfully fought within four years after the declaration.

GEOGRAPHY

Croatia is located in Central and Southeast Europe, borders on Hungary in the northeast, Serbia in the east, Bosnia and Herzegovina in the southeast, Montenegro in the southeast, the Adriatic Sea in the southwest and Slovenia in the northwest. It lies mainly between latitudes 42 ° and 47 °C. Sh.I longitudes 13 ° and 20 ° E. Chast of the territory in the extreme South surrounding Dubrovnik represents the practical exclave connected with other part of the continent territorial waters, but divided on the short shore belonging to Bosnia and Herzegovina around Neum.

NATURE

Croatia can be divided between several ecoregions because of its climate and geomorphology. Therefore, the country is one of the richest in Europe from the point of view of a biodiversity. There are four types of biogeographical regions in Croatia: The Mediterranean along the coast and in its next internal areas, Alpine in the majority of the Face and Mountain Kotar, Pannony along Drava and Danube and continental in other areas. One of the most considerable karst habitats is the diving karst, for example, canyons Zrmanya and Krk and also tufa barriers and also underground habitats.
