Flag: national flag consists of a white circle in the center with the shoulders stretching to four corners. The circle contains three red stars with green borders. The top and lower fields formed by a circle and its hands red; fields on each side green.

MOTTO: Burundi-Bvaku (our Burundi), beginning "Burundi-bvaku, Burundi-bukhir" ("Our with Burundi, about the blessed earth").

MONETARY BULLETIN: The Burundi franc (BFr) is paper currency. There are coins of 1, 5 and 10 francs and also banknotes of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 francs. BFr1 = $0,00088 (or $1 = BFr11,138) as of 2005.

WEIGHT AND MEASURES: the metric system is the legal standard.

ARRANGEMENT, SIZE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Burundi is the country which doesn't have an outlet to the sea in east part of the Central Africa of 27 830 sq.km (10 745 quarter. Miles) of which about 7% make lakes. Rather, the area occupied with Burundi is a little less than State of Maryland. It stretches for 263 km (163 miles) of NUS and for 194 km (121 miles). To Burundi it is limited on Rwanda, in the east and Tanzania and also on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DROC) with a total length of border of 974 km (605 miles).

Capital: Burundi, Bujumbura, it is located in the western part of the country.

TOPOGRAPHY

Burundi is the country generally of mountains and the plateau with the western range of the mountains which are going south from the North and proceeding to Rwanda. The highest point - Mt. Heho at the height of 2670 m (8 760 feet). The only earth lower than 914 m (3000 feet) represents a narrow strip of the plain along the river Ruzizi (about 800 m / 2600 feet) which forms the western border to the north from the Lake Tanganyika. From mountains the earth gradually decreases by the East, having fallen approximately up to 1400 m (4600 feet) to southeast and southern borders. Average height of the central plateau is from 1525 to 2000 m (from 5000 to 6500 feet). The main rivers form natural borders for the most part of the country. To Kanyar and Kagera separate Burundi from Rwanda along many sites of the general border. Kagera and Ruvubu are important as the most southern sources of Neil. The most part of the southern border of Burundi is formed by the river Malagarasi. The main lakes - Tanganyika, Kokhoga and to Rver.

CLIMATE

Burundi in general has tropical climate of highlands, with a considerable day temperature range in many areas. Temperature also strongly varies from one area to another, mainly as a result of differences in height. The central plateau has pleasant cool weather with an average temperature of 20 °C (68 °F). The area around the Lake Tanganyika is warmer, on average than 23 °C (73 °F).
