ABOUT THE COUNTRY

Myanmar which is also called by Burma, the country located in the western part of continental Southeast Asia. In 1989 the official English name of the country which it carried out since 1885 was changed from the Burmese union in the Union of Myanmar; in Burmese since the 13th century the country is known as Myanmar (or, more precisely, Mranma Pras). The English name of the city which served as the capital of the country from 1948 to 2006, Rangoon was also dropped in 1989 in favor of the general Burmese name Yangon. In 2005 the government began to shift the administrative center, at first to the city of Pinmana (approximately in 200 miles or 320 km to the north from Yangon), and then to Nye-Pius-Tau (Naypyidaw), recently built city near Pingmang. Nay Pyi Taw was announced by the capital of Myanmar in 2006.

GEOGRAPHY
