ARRANGEMENT, SIZE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Located on an extreme internal corner of the Gulf of Guinea on the western coast of Africa, Nigeria occupies the space in 923 768 sq.km (356 669 quarter. Miles), 1 127 km long (700 miles) and also 1,046 km (650 miles) of N-y. Rather, the area occupied with Nigeria is a little more, than is twice more than the State of California. It borders on Chad in the northeast, in Cameroon, on the bank of the Atlantic Ocean (Gulf of Guinea), on Benin (before Dahomey) in the south and Niger in the northwest and n, length of border of 4 900 km (3045 miles) from which 853 km (530 miles) - the coastline. TOPOGRAPHY

Along all coastline of Nigeria the belt of the mangrove marsh wood from 16 to 96 km wide (10-60 miles) which is crossed by branches of Niger and uncountable other rivers and streams lies. Behind the marsh wood there is a zone from 80 to 160 km wide (50-100 miles) of the wavy tropical rainforest. Then the country rises to the plateau at the general height about 600 m (2000 feet), but reaches the maximum depth of 2042 m (6 700 feet) on eastern frontier in Mountains Shebshi, and vegetation changes from the wood to the savanna, with thick the wood in mountains. On Far North the country approaches the southern part of the Sahara.

Nigeria, the third largest river of Africa, are included into Nigeria from the northwest and passes in the southeast direction, carrying out the main inflow, Benue, in Lokaya, approximately in 550 km (340 miles) from the sea. Then it flows on the South to the delta through which it flows into the Gulf of Guinea on numerous channels. Other main inflows of Niger are the rivers of Sokoto and Kaduna. The second big drainage system of Nigeria proceeds on the North and the East.
