Georgia is located in southeast Europe bordering on the Black Sea between Turkey and Russia. Rather, the territory occupied with Georgia is a little less than State of South Carolina which total area is 69 700 sq.km (26 911 quarter. Miles). Georgia divides borders with Russia into n and e, Azerbaijan on э and with, Armenia and Turkey in the South and on the Black Sea on w. The border of the earth of Georgia makes 1461 km (906 miles). Its coastline makes 310 km (192 miles). Its capital, Tbilisi, is in a southeast part of the country.

TOPOGRAPHY

Relief of Georgia generally mountainous, with the great Caucasus Mountains in the north and the smaller Caucasus Mountains in the south. The highest point in the country - Mount Shkhara at the height of 5 201 m (17 064 feet) on Greater Caucasus. The Colchis lowland opens to the Black Sea in the West, and the river basin of the Kura lies in the east. The Kura River - the longest river of the country 1,514 km long (941 miles). Good soils meet in floodplains of the valley of the rivers and in the foothills of the Colchis lowland.
CLIMATE

The climate of Georgia along the coast of the Black Sea is similar to climate of the Mediterranean, warm, damp and almost subtropical. Further within the country climate continental, with warm summer and in the cold winter. Average temperature of July is 23 °C (73,8 °F). Average temperature in January is -3 °C (27,3 °F). The annual amount of precipitation in Georgia makes 51 cm (20 inches). In mountains it is much more cool, snow and ice all year at the height over 3600 m (12 000 feet).

FLORA AND FAUNA

The earth of the country consists of softly cattle plains. The Caucasus Mountains in Georgia begin a series of high mountains in Central Asia. The subtropical zone of the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus Mountains has a peculiar vegetation: the woods from an alder, an oak, an elm and a beech with abundance of lian and impurity of evergreen plants. Mountain goats, the Caucasian goats, the Caucasian antelope, the European boar, a porcupine and a leopard live in the Caucasus, and reptiles and amphibious beings abound. As of 2002 there were at least 107 species of mammals, 208 bird species and more than 4300 species of plants through the whole country.
