HISTORY

Cultures Hallstatt and La-Ten thrived during the late Iron Age, since about 450 g B.C., perhaps, under influence of both the Greek, and Etruscan civilizations. One of the most important breeding groups in the Alpine region were Helvetius. In 58, in fight at Bibrat, Julius Caesar won against the Alpine tribes that led to the fact that the region was under fixed control of the Roman republic. By 15 BC Tibery who is fated to become the second Roman emperor with the brother Drus, won all territory of the Alpine region. Then Liechtenstein was integrated into the Roman province of Rayetiya. This area was supported by the Roman military who also supported big the camp of legionaries in Brigantium (Austria), near the Boden Sea and in Magic (Switzerland). This group also created and supported the Roman road which ran through the territory. In 259-260 Mr. of Brigantiya it was destroyed by Alemannsky, the German people which lodged in the area about 450 AD.

GEOGRAPHY

Liechtenstein is located in Upper Rein's valley of the European Alps and borders on the East from Austria, and in the South and the West - Switzerland. All western border of Liechtenstein is formed by Rein. Measured on the South to the North the country makes about 24 km (15 miles) in length. Its highest point, Graushpits, makes 2599 m (8 527 feet). Despite the Alpine arrangement, the prevailing southern winds do climate of Liechtenstein rather soft. In the winter hillsides well are suitable for winter sports.
New inspections with use of more exact measurements of borders of the country in 2006 established the area of 160 sq.km (61,776 sq. miles), with borders of 77,9 km (48,4 miles). Thus, in 2006 it was revealed what borders of Liechtenstein on 1,9 km (1,2 miles) longer, than was considered earlier.

CULTURE

As a result of its small sizes Liechtenstein strongly suffered from external cultural influences, especially from those that occur in the South German regions of Europe, including Austria, Baden-Wurttemberg, Bavaria, Switzerland and, in particular, Tyrol and Forarlberg. "Historical society of the Principality of Liechtenstein" plays a role in preservation of culture and stories of the country.
The largest museum is Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, the international museum of the modern and modern art with an important international collection of works of art. The building built by the Swiss architects Morger, Degelo and Ceres is an important milestone in Vaduz. It was complete in November, 2000 and forms "a black box" of tinted concrete and a black basalt stone. The collection of the museum is also a national collection of works of art of Liechtenstein.
