ABOUT THE REPUBLIC

Namibia, officially the Republic of Namibia which is also called (at the international level till 1968) South West Africa, Afrikaans of Namibia or Desert Africa, the country located on the southwest coast of Africa. It borders on Angola in the north, on Zambia in the northeast, on Botswana in the east, on South Africa in the southeast and the South and on the Atlantic Ocean in the West. It fluctuates from droughty to the desert on the coast and in the east in the north. The landscape impresses, but the desert, mountains, canyons and savannas, perhaps, are better to see, than to borrow. The only constant rivers are Kuneen (Kunen), Okavango (Cubango), Wave (Kvando) and Zambezi on northern border, and Oranzh - in the south. Only the northern border - and not all - easily passes. The coastal Namib Desert, artful reeves and slip-ups of the coast (half successfully called "The coast of a skeleton"), nearby deserts along the Orange river and the dry Region of Kalakhari in the east explain late conquest of Namibia and form geographical around the country. Namibia is divided from the West into the East on three main topographical zones: coastal Namib Desert, Central plateau and Kalakhari. Намиб partially rocky and partly (in central extended) dunes. Possessing difficult flora and fauna, it is the fragile and seldom covered environment unsuitable for vicarial or agricultural activity. Diamonds (possibly, washed up from Mountains Bazoto by the Orange river) and uranium are found in Orandzhemunda in the South and in Arandis in the center. Намиб, on 50 - 80 miles in width on the most part of the length, contracts in the north where Gaokoveld, the western mountain ledge of the Central plateau, rests against the sea.

CLIMATE

Namibia is located on the southern suburb of tropics and has distinct seasons. The coast is cooled with the Bengelsky current (which bears in itself the rich and restored fish stocks of the country) and averages less than 2 inches (50 millimeters) of rainfall a year. The central plateau and Kalakhari have wide daily temperature ranges, more than 50 °F (30 °C) in summer days and less than 20 °F (10 °C) in the winter. In Windhoek on the plateau average temperature in December is 75 °F (24 °C) and average at most 88 °F (31 °C). In July these average values are according to 55 °F (13 °C) and 68 °F (20 °C). The humidity is usually low, and the amount of precipitation increases approximately by 10 inches (250 millimeters) on the southern and western parts of the plateau approximately to 20 inches in the North central part and more than on 24 inches on strips of Kaprivi and Otavi. However the amount of precipitation strongly varies, and long-term droughts are the general. In the north and ground waters, adjacent to mountains, are also important, as well as only the little less variable, than rainfall.
