In Nicaragua, the area of 129 494 sq.km is the largest of the Central American countries (49 998 quarter. TOPOGRAPHY
The Caribbean coast known as Moskito (or Miskito) the Coast or Moskitiya, consists of the low, flat, damp rainforest stretching to pine savannas of 80-160 km (50-100 miles) within the country. The coastal lowland rises to the plateau covering about one third of total area. This plateau is broken by the ridges stretching in east direction from the main Cordilleras to 64-80 km (40-50 miles) of the coast of the Caribbean Sea. The mountain central region forms the triangular wedge directed to the southeast rising by height up to about 2000 m (6 600 feet).
