ARRANGEMENT, SIZE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Yemen is located in the southern part of Arabian Peninsula. It is a little more, than is twice more than the State of Wyoming with a total area of 527 970 sq.km (203 850 quarter. Miles). Yemen divides borders with Saudi Arabia in the north, Oman, Gulf of Aden and on the Red Sea and also has the general overland border in 1,746 km (1 085 miles) and the coastline in 1906 km (1,184 miles).

TOPOGRAPHY

The relief of Yemen has the narrow coastal plain covered with hills with flat tops and severe mountains. The moved plains of the desert in the center of the country direct in depth of the desert of Arabian Peninsula. The highest point - the top of Jebel Hadkhur rising by 3,760 m over the coast of the Red Sea. The western part of the country contains fertile soil on sublime plateaus which towers from 1200 to 3000 m (from 4000 to 10000 feet). In December, 2004 the earthquake concentrated in the Indian Ocean called a tsunami which affected many neighboring countries. In Yemen there were only two confirmed death, but the damage to coastal fishing villages and the enterprises was serious.

CLIMATE

The extreme humidity is combined with high temperatures - up to 54 °C (129 °F) in a shadow - for creation of boring hot climate. The winds blowing on the northwest in the summer and on the southwest in the winter bring a small rain, but call strong sandstorms. However in January and February temperature averages about 20 °C (68 °F). The climate of highlands, as a rule, is considered the best in Arabia. The summer is moderate, winters cool, with some frosts. Temperatures vary from 22 °C (72 °F) in June, the hottest month, up to 14 °C (57 °F) in January. Rainfall in highlands fluctuates from 41 cm (16 inches) in Shane up to 81 cm (32 inches) in the field of monsoons in the extreme southwest. Average year-round temperature in San'a 'is 18 °C (64 °F).

FLORA AND FAUNA

Vegetation is rare along the coast, but in mountains and waters it is plentiful. The acacia, a date palm tree and many fruit trees are the general. Many grades of grapes are grown up. Scalded apple, euphoria and irrigation grow much.
